Great Weather + Pallets = Lots of Fun!

I was finally able to get back to my workshop this weekend that's in the garage.  The weather here has been unbearably hot the past few weeks and it's kept me from doing any major woodworking in the garage. It's like a furnace in there when the temperature rises.  Thank goodness it doesn't happen too often here in San Diego.

DIY Pallet Bulletin Board

As you know, I'm always trying to make something new out of pallets.  Here is one of my latest creations using pallet boards and salvaged wood.  I love combining different types of wood, sanding each board, and then seeing what new life they take on.  I made two bulletin boards and have listed this one in my Etsy shop. You can see that listing here.  I'm keeping the other one for myself and will use it to display Christmas cards we receive.

I love San Diego. Some days I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming when I'm

Tomorrow would have been my mother's 80th birthday. She loved amethysts. I thought I would browse Etsy for some great jewelry using amethysts. I know she would have loved all of these!

DIY Jewelry Organizer ~ Yes, I Used Pallets!

I thought I would share one of my latest creations using salvaged boards.  The jewelry organizer above is made from two pallet boards and two old fence boards.  They were attached to each other with 1" wood screws.  I added cup hooks and a wooden dowel to finish off the construction.  The boards are finished with Minwax Mission Oak stain followed by my trusty old favorite, Howard Feed n Wax.  There's a saw tooth hanger on the back for easy hanging.

I went back to work last week. It's been a great summer, but I sure did miss my library. I have the best job in the world!  Even though I work in an elementary school library, I thought I would see what Etsy has to offer in a search for public library creations. Thift Store Table Facelift

I love searching for treasures in thrift stores. There are stores here in San Diego that have become my favorites. I found this lovely little table while visiting one of them.   I brought it home and stored it in the garage, not knowing quite what to do with it. It kept me company in the garage for a few months as I worked on other projects. Finally, after I had finished making creations out of all the wood planks that were stored on top of it, I decided to give the sweet little table it's well deserved face lift.

I love succulents! These tender plants look so vulnerable, yet are stronger than most of us. I never realized how creative so many people could be in designing planters and vases for these special plants.

More Pallet Love

I finally finished the wine rack (or book shelf, picture display, or planter....) I was working on.  As you know, if you've read my blog before, I love pallets!  I love to create interesting, useful things from pallets and I try to sneak them in the garage when my hubby isn't watching.
